Attractions:
Haythorn Ranch tour, "A Step into the Past".
We invite you to take a step back in time to visit a
historical ranch located in the heart of the Nebraska
Sandhills. Since the 1800's the Haythorn family has carved
it's own unique niche of Americana through cattle, horses
and good people. We are the largest breeder of the American
Quarter Horse in the United States and third largest in the
world.Today the ranch is spread out over 90,000 acres of
deeded and leased land on four ranches in three Nebraska
counties. The ranch is situated on what is known to be the
largest underground water source on the continent, the
Ogallala Aquifer. Because of this, the rolling hills are
richly covered in gamma, blue stem and buffalo grass, making
it a truly picturesque and peaceful landscape. The ranch
pastures hold herds of both cattle and horses, which the
Haythorn ranch has become so well known for.
Visitors will be shown historical pictures and given the
background of the family and the ranch. The video "Sandhills
Season" features the Haythorn Land & Cattle Company. There
will be a question and answer period with present day owner,
Craig Haythorn.
At certain times of the year, visitors may be taken by horse
drawn wagons to see mares and baby colts that they could
both pet and have photos taken beside.
